The Rulebook of Veros

Everything you need to rule: the Arena matches, the Reign on the World Map, the Great Judgment, and the coins that bind them all.

The Arena: live matches

  • Training · free · 1v1 against a bot (Beginner / Medium / Advanced) · 20 territories side by side, 5 conquest rounds + 2 attack rounds
  • Arenas · paid in Denarii · tables of 2 to 8 seats, one seat = 25 Denarii · the map grows with the table: 10 territories per player, so everyone has exactly 7 conquests to make, from the table of 2 up to the whole world (80) at the table of 8
  • An arena can be public (anyone joins) or private, you enter only with the host's code; the host also picks the question subjects
  • Who pays: each for their own seat, or the host for everyone, then the host pays 25 × every seat taken. If the table dissolves before the start, every Denar comes back
  • Watching is free, but it needs an account: you join tables already under way, if the host left them open to watchers; you see the map and the scores, never the answers
  • A match has 3 acts: Conquest (questions, you claim neutral territories), Battle (a numeric guess decides the order; you attack your neighbours) and Siege (bring down a rival's fortress in 3 towers and you take their whole empire, while their fortress becomes an ordinary territory of yours; everyone has a single fortress)
  • You start with a base + 2 neighbouring territories · the conquest lasts 7 rounds, then the territories nobody claimed are sealed: in the battle only territories with an owner can be taken

Match scoring

  • The score does not add up points for deeds: it is the value of the empire you hold right now · a territory is 100, your keep 300 · you start at 500 (the keep + 2 neighbours)
  • It rises the moment you conquer and drops when someone takes land off you · if your keep falls you lose the whole empire, so you are left with 0
  • The last one standing wins, otherwise the largest empire · those knocked out are ranked by how long they held on, the first to fall comes last · ties break, in order, on territories held, correct answers, then total answering speed
  • After the match, ELO moves between the players by final standing (see “ELO and Prestige”)

ELO & Prestige

The week's ELO ◆

  • Everyone starts Monday at 1000. Every Denarii match (arenas + the Great Judgment) moves ELO between players, pair by pair
  • Beat someone rated above you → you gain a lot; lose to someone below → you lose a lot. What counts is your final place, and the gap in empire size amplifies the swing; bigger tables move more than small ones
  • The weekly board is ordered by ELO, your first match puts you on it. Next to it the board shows one point for every rival you finished above; that count is there to read, it does not decide your place. Practice against bots never touches it
  • Resident bots keep the board lively while the site is quiet. Once more than 3 real players are on that week's board, no bot ranks above any human: humans get the podium places and the Prestige
  • Sentence Sunday: your position becomes Prestige (1st: 40, 2nd: 34, 3rd: 29… top 25%: 6+), and the podium takes the laurels. The settlement pays Prestige and laurels only, no Denarii. On Monday ELO goes back to 1000, only the rank stays

Prestige & the ranks ◆

  • Prestige is your career, it stays when ELO resets and flows from two worlds: the Arena's Sunday settlement and the prizes of the Reign on the World Map. From Astraea (420) up, a week without a single ranked match costs 10
  • It climbs the ladder of 10 ranks: from Clerk all the way to Themis

The World Map, the Reign (season)

How you conquer

  • What a challenge is: you tap a province and get 5 questions in 75 seconds. A free province becomes yours from at least 3/5 correct; an occupied one falls only if you score strictly more than its defense (defense 3? you need 4/5)
  • Where you can attack: provinces adjacent to your empire, you conquer step by step, like a real empire. Exception: your first conquest of the season can be anywhere on the map, so you choose your starting ground
  • What it costs: the first 3 challenges of the day are free. Once they're spent, each attack on a neighbouring province costs 10 denarii. The counter resets every night
  • An Expedition = attacking a province that is not adjacent to you, a campaign across the seas: it requires at least 4/5 and costs 20 denarii (added to the 10-denarii fee if your free challenges are spent)
  • The Shield: a freshly conquered province cannot be attacked for 2 hours, nobody snatches it back the second after

How you defend

  • Every province defends itself, with two layers that add up: the conquest score (3-5, how well you answered when you took it) and the garrison (paid guards). An attacker must beat their sum, strictly
  • The conquest score rusts if left untended: −1 every 7 days the province sees no battle. Restore it any time by challenging your own province ("Fortify your defense"): the new score becomes its defense
  • Garrisons are bought province by province: 20 denarii = +1 defense on that province only (max +3). There is no "whole empire" reinforcement. The paid bonus is temporary: it expires 1 point every 3 days
  • Example: you take Lexia with 3/5 → defense 3. You add a garrison → 3+1 = 4. The attacker needs a perfect 5/5 to conquer it
  • "No citadel stands above the law": however high you stack score + garrisons, the defense counts as at most 4 for the attacker, a perfect 5/5 conquers anything. Money shields you from mediocrity, not from perfected knowledge

How you win the season

  • Every night you earn +1 reign point for each province you hold, +2 if fortified. The winner is whoever rules steadily, not whoever strikes on the last day
  • A season lasts one week and closes on Sunday, together with the Sentence; on Monday the map starts from zero. At the end: Prestige, 1st: 60, 2nd: 45, 3rd: 35, 4-10: 25→15, top 25%: 10, participation (≥5 conquests): 5
  • 1st place becomes Emperor of the Season, a permanent title on the profile
  • At the reset: the map is wiped, Denarii and rank stay

The Great Judgment

  • Once a week, Friday from 20:00 (Romania time): a single match, with at most 20 players
  • Entry costs 10 Denarii · the register is open all week, you enrol straight from the arena list. Change your mind and withdraw, and the Denarii come back, but only until the doors open, 15 minutes before the gong
  • 1st place brings 50 Denarii: the only place in the game where coins are earned without buying them
  • Enrolled, you may play other arenas freely, but 15 minutes before the gong the other tables close their doors to you; the bell rings for you at T-60 and T-15
  • It is played across the whole of Veros, under the violet sign of the Judgment
  • Judgment wins add up in the Judgment badge, worn on the profile
  • The biggest ELO swing in the game: up to 20 rivals at the same table, and every pairing carries the heaviest stake in the arena

The week's Edict

  • Three seals unlock on their own from the week's ranked matches; every unlock reaches you at the bell

The currencies

  • ELO: the week's form: starts at 1000 on Monday, moves between players with every Denarii match; on Sunday your position becomes Prestige
  • Prestige: the career: it climbs the ranks; from Astraea (420) up, a week without a ranked match costs 10
  • Denarii: the coin of war. You earn them free in one place only: 1st place at the Great Judgment, 50 Denarii. Otherwise, the Treasury sells packs for real money. You spend them on: an arena seat 25 · entry to the Great Judgment 10 · garrisons 20 · extra challenges 10 · expeditions 20

The Bell: notifications

  • Where it is: the bell in the top bar, on every page of the platform. The red number shows how many tidings you haven't read; tap it and the register opens
  • It is real-time: no refresh needed. When someone moves against you, the news lands instantly in the top-right corner, wherever you are on the site
  • Tap a notification and you land at the scene itself: the province on the map, the leaderboard, the Great Judgment's register

What it announces from the World Map

  • You are under attack, someone has just started a challenge on one of your provinces. You learn the second it begins, not after it's over
  • Province lost: you've been dethroned: who, where and with what score
  • One answer away, the attack failed by a single point. The warning that matters: fortify before they return
  • Attack repelled: the walls held
  • Movement at the border, a rival conquered a province adjacent to yours. That's how you see an empire growing toward you before it arrives
  • Coronation: the season has ended and the throne is yours

What it announces at the start of the day

  • A new day at Court, your 3 free challenges on the map are back, plus how many days in a row you have shown up
  • The Great Judgment is held today, if you are not in the register yet. The gong does not wait
  • The week's laurels and the Edict's seals: when Sunday settles or when you cross a threshold

The rules of the Bell

  • It never rings twice in vain: a rival hammering the same province again and again produces a single tiding, not a siren
  • It speaks your language, the tiding is written in the recipient's language, not the attacker's
  • Even when you're not on the site: if you allow your browser, the notification reaches your screen even with the tab in the background. The choice is yours and can be changed any time in your browser settings
  • From the register you can mark everything read or clear the list. Notifications are ephemeral by nature, the map, the leaderboard and the denarii ledger remain the durable record

„In Veros, denarii raise walls, but only knowledge passes them. Veritas vincit.”
